The clients had a empty basement and they wanted to provide a place for their growing children to bring their friends and let them “hang”, watch movies and relax; This underlining solution got them off the streets, sort of speak. The basement’s larger scale space was under the existing garage and incorporated a large steel member and column to carry the garage. We used that as a departure point and ordering device to turn the space around towards the back-door entry. Built-in benches with indirect lighting, which could be dimmed, created a comforting environment for friends as well as family gatherings.
