Sonoita, Arizona

The sisters at this abbey in southern Arizona approached Pollard Architects about renovations, a new guest house and an overall master plan for their community. Working closely with the community, we were able to achieve all of the goals, which the Abbey had set out to achieve. We were also able to direct the overall growth of the community to help achieve future goals.

Part of an overall Maser Plan, we created to the southeast a guest house for the Abbey. The first phase was an art studio, which has been completed; the second phase was a senior wing and care facility; the third was this simple guest residence. This structure has a radiant floor, rammed earth walls, and solar controls. The building takes on the color of the surrounding area, and is on the entry road to the Abbey and Church. It contains three separate bedrooms, baths, and a common space.
